Here Are a Few Kind Words From Our Previous Guests:

”This is one of the most gorgeous modern homes we’ve been in the high desert. The house was clearly built to admire the view 360 degrees around the house. Huge windows everywhere make let you see the sunsets and beautiful dark sky." Adam

-”After renting a number of houses in Joshua Tree this was the best ever! House is well equipped and very nicely furnished. The best view port outside for watching meteors shower. Don't forget your telescope for great stargazing” - Joshua

-BEDS & BATHS-
The home can comfortably sleep up to four guests in two bedrooms. The primary bedroom features a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom, while the second bedroom has a queen-size bed and funky furnishings. Both bedrooms have sliding doors that lead to the back patio.

Shelter 2 also has two bathrooms. The primary bathroom has dual sinks with wood accents and chrome features, plus a glass-enclosed walk-in rainfall shower and plenty of hotel-quality towels. Step through the door to enter the lovely private courtyard with an outdoor shower. The second bathroom, located across the hall from the second bedroom, includes a luxurious deep-soaking bathtub.

Need to do some laundry? There’s a washer and dryer available for your use.

-KITCHEN & DINING-
Natural elements meet modern technology in the kitchen, which features sleek stainless steel appliances and custom wood cabinetry. Appliances include a gas stove, oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher, and both a drip coffee maker and a French press are ready for your morning java ritual. The cabinets are stocked with dishes, cookware, and a blender.

When it’s time to eat, dine in style at the table for four - or opt for a meal outside on the patio.

-LIVING SPACE-
The kitchen opens up to a bright, airy living room with a comfortable sofa. After an invigorating hike (or a hearty meal at one of Joshua Tree’s delicious restaurants), you’ll want to kick back and relax in air conditioned comfort. Flip on the TV (DirecTV channels included), or just admire the spectacular views through the huge windows as your favorite tunes play through the Soundfreaq Bluetooth speaker.

-OUTDOOR SPACE-
Steps from the living room is your private patio, surrounded by gorgeous Joshua trees, which is an ideal place to relax. It’s up to you whether you’d prefer to soak up the rays in a lounge chair or sip a glass of California wine.

When the sun goes down, nothing beats sitting around the stone fire pit with a view of the mountains in the distance. End the day with a soak in the Jacuzzi hot tub (or a refreshing dip in the cowboy tub!) overlooking the mountains in the sunset.

When you’re in the mood for dinner with a view, just fire up the propane BBQ and pull up a chair at the outdoor dining table, which seats six.

-ESSENTIALS-
Parking is available for two vehicles: one in the carport and one in the driveway. There’s an electric vehicle charger in the carport.

Shelter 2 also includes WiFi, heating, and air conditioning.

-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at Shelter 2. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

• The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

Everything at your fingertips and more, when you book with us today!

** Cleaning Protocols ***
As the only professional management company in the area, we have always maintained exceptional cleaning standards. We pay above the living wage standards; 100% of your cleaning fee is paid to the cleaners (i.e. no profit to us) and we insist on a professional level of cleaning between guests. We love the High Desert for a lot of reasons - including the open spaces, lack of crowds, and dry weather that we believe make it a safe place to visit.
Access Access
You have access to every room and feature of this beautiful home.

If you need a little more space, Shelter: Two can also be rented in conjunction with its sister property, Shelter: One, which sits on an adjacent 2 1/2-acre parcel of land. This is the perfect arrangement for larger groups.

Dog owners agree to the following additional rules: use protective sheets that we will leave out for you to cover any place where your dog may lie (we are not equipped to shampoo furniture or rugs or dry clean bedding after your departure); dogs must be leashed at all times when outside (there are coyotes in the High Desert, which present danger to unleashed dogs) and owners must immediately pick up after their dogs and deposit waste in a plastic bag and place it in the garbage bin; dogs are not to be left unattended in the property at any time. In addition to our additional dog cleaning fee, we will deduct the costs of extra cleaning (including at least $50 for pet fur left on furniture due to lack of use of the provided protective sheets) or repairs necessitated by the presence of your dog.

• The High Desert occasionally has power outages due to its rural nature. We are not responsible for any outages of Southern California Edison or any inconvenience such outage may cause. We will notify you of any planned outages and if requested will attempt to accommodate you elsewhere in the event of a planned outage lasting more than 4 hours. But we do not provide refunds or discounts for power outages that are unplanned.

• No photoshoots are allowed on the property without prior written approval and the payment of additional fees. Unauthorized use of the rental property’s name, address, or images, including its interior, exterior, and / or private property surroundings, for any commercial use including but not limited to selling, advertising, TV, film production, electronic, or other media, is not permitted and we will seek to have any use removed.

This place is beautiful, very clean and equipped with everything we needed including paper towels to toilet tissues. The house is conveniently located close to a mile from the entrance of the Joshua Tree national park. We enjoyed a fantastic view from the house during the day and watched stars at night. The hosts were very responsive and professional. We brought two dogs and they even provided doggy's poop bags. We had a great peaceful stay and highly recommend the place.

If you've ever wondered if a desert oasis is truly within reach and can also surpass expectations, you've come to the right place. Off the grid, yet somehow just up the road from the heart of Joshua Tree's best area of its Main Street. It's the kind of home that you feel more than at home at; you cook in, relax under the stars in a perfectly heated jacuzzi in and find solace in for the night - yet are more than happy to find yourself in the AM, if you're lucky to grab a coveted spot, at the counter at Joshua Tree's JT's Country Kitchen for one of the best breakfasts you'll ever have for a bargain (insider tip: JT's chef is a renowned pastry chef so rally up your carbs for once and believe it or not, JT's used to owned by Marina Uy, a native of Cambodia so do yourself a favor and get a side of the Cambodian hot sauce or try one of her home made signature dishes that still reside on the menu.. I mean, if it's good enough to be loved by Bordain.. shouldn't it be for you too?).

We had such an amazing stay! Joshua Tree National Forest was right down the road, so we were able to go hiking during the day and stargazing at night. Staying in was just as nice, with a beautiful seating area out back to look up at the stars. There was a beautiful view of the mountains to enjoy our morning coffee...just so peaceful. The home was very clean and comfortable and we had everything we needed. Their were shops and restaurants within driving distance, so there was plenty to do! The host was responsive and we had no problems checking in and out. They had a lot of great suggestions for where to eat and shop. All around a great experience. Thank you!

Shelter 2 was a great place to stay for our intended strike mission into Joshua Tree Park. The location is only a few minutes from the park entrance. It was also nice to not be in close proximity to our neighbors. A little distance felt like we has some solitude. The bedrooms had sliding glass doors that gave beautiful, wide views of the desert landscape. The inside is spacious and the decore matched up well with the desert environment. And of course the hot tub was a perfect amenity to have after a long hike. I would definitely come back to this location again.

What a fantastic home in a magical spot. Both inside and outside spaces were comfortable, warm but uncluttered and overall showed a great attention to design detail. The setting on the way into Joshua Tree National Park feels like a part of the desert but is also quite convenient to restaurants and other necessities.

Had a beautiful and relaxing stay at Shelter 2, the house was immaculate, it had all the essentials we needed, including a dryer and washer, the views were amazing and the hot tub and fireplace were a nice touch after coming home from exploring the Joshua Tree National Park which was a 5 minute drive away from the house, host communicated and was always responsive throughout our stay, will definitely book again for our future visits to Joshua Tree.

I was really happy with Shelter overall. The hot tub was well maintained and great for star viewing. I was stuck inside a couple days due to rain but the views are so beautiful from every room I didn’t mind at all. Outside can get a bit noisy from Quail Springs Rd traffic so if you want complete quiet you probably want a more remote location. It’s so close to the JTNP entrance, thus, ideal for long days in the park. I was in love with the views from all the windows in every room. Even washing dishes was peaceful and a visual treat. The fire pit at night was perfect for relaxing and dining next to. I like how Shelter 1 is close by in case a group wants to be close but separate. I’d definitely rent here again and recommend it to small families or couples.

Shelter 2 is a fantastic base for a Joshua Tree vacation - just outside the park entrance. The house is very tastefully decorated and has everything we needed for our trip. We especially loved the outdoor shower, which was refreshing after hiking daily in the desert, and watching the nightly star show from the hot tub.

It was our first time to Joshua Tree and the house was perfect for that experience. It was really close to the national park entrance and just a few miles from restaurants and coffee, but it still felt private. It has a great view of the surrounding mountains, and as soon as the sun went down, we got good use out of the fire pit and hot tub. Love the clean, modern look in the house, which had everything we needed for a quick weekend trip.

We were happy from the start because of the cleanliness and new-ness. Stayed with my husband and chill dog for a few-day-getaway. It was perfect bc it was just far enough away from town, and super close to the entrance of the park. Loved it! Things which stood out for us: 1) cleanliness 2) modern 3) stuff left for the dog: poop bags, lint brush, couch sheet, dog bed (even though our boy wouldn’t sleep on the dog bed bc of the smells of other dogs- it’s ok bc we brought his own) 4) Britta 5) fire pit ?? 6) hot tub temp ?? 7) the bed sheets were so comfy and well made- no cheap sheets. And I slept very well on the mattress. Things that were missing or suggestions (but are NOT deal breakers… 1) no French press 2) hot water took forever to come out of showers and sinks…coming from drought in LA- it killed me to run the water for so long 3)TV- could have been easier to navigate btwn two controllers- maybe just get a smart tv? Can’t wait to go back w/ friends! Rent all 3 houses!

The house is clean, modern and very close to the park, which is a plus! A few minor issues: 1). The wifi is spotty at best, we had to restart the modem everyday in order to connect and was still slow if/ when it connected. 2). There was a recent winter storm and it took an entire night and the next day for the heat to warm the house (this was an issue mostly for our infant who we had to dress in 3 layers the first night because temp was barely 60 degrees with the heat on). After the house warmed it stayed warm and was no longer an issue. After messaging the host they told us that the system has a lag and that the winter storm likely affected the wifi, however it did not get any better when the weather improved. These are by no means deal breakers but with a higher price tag at $450/night we hoped for better.

Hello, thank you for the feedback. We are working to improve internet connectivity and storms in the desert are sometimes more likely to affect service than in urban areas of the state. Thankfully we have nature to supplement the experience! With overnight lows in the 30's, we also work hard to keep guests warm. Your reply helps us continually improve! Thank you!

The shelter 2 was a well designed, thought out nicely appointed space. From the views to the furniture, top appliances and layout. It’s secluded yet very close to everything you need especially the park. They had pet supplies which made us feel even more welcome. There was a operator error issue that was addressed immediately. Huge windows everywhere make let you see the sunsets and beautiful dark sky. We loved the outdoor fire, the jacuzzi, the location with privacy, and the spaciousness of the place. In addition little touches, like makeup wipes, nice high end soaps, very organized linen closets and clean and organized kitchen makes this place a nice spot for those who want R&R and inspiration. Shelter 2 was a great place to stay -- very clean and in a great location. The hosts were very responsive when I needed help with a couple things too. It's a perfect place to get away, and the outside areas were ideal for star-gazing. I will note that I had a little bit of trouble with my car on one of the roads on my way in, due to the flash floods they just had, so just be mindful of the weather if you don't have four-wheel drive. It had been smoothed out by the time I needed to get back, so it was only a temporary issue - and the hosts offered to escort me if I had issues or was worried, which was really great and very much appreciated. I'll definitely return soon!

If you’re looking for a getaway from the chaos of your day to day life, look no further! Shelter 2 is so cozy and private yet so close to town. The sunsets over the valley are breathtaking and it truly feels like a home away from home. Plus the Joshua Tree National Park entrance is literally 2 minutes down the road. Book this place ASAP! You won’t regret it.

Where to begin! My stay here was beyond words. I booked a weekend out for my boyfriend birthday and it was spectacular. From the very beginning, there was fast communication. My host at homestead was so accomodating in booking a private chef and a massage at my request. They booked us a private chef Justin, and it was the best food we’ve had. We were given a 4 course meal to choose from and he made it so personalised for us and such a wonderful experience. The following morning we had two massage ladies come and they were some of the best massages we’ve head. Homestead honestly went above and beyond to accomodate our needs . The place itself was so clean, neat and had such a gorgeous design to it. It was so quiet and peaceful and the night sky was breath taking. You’ve never seen stars light up the sky like here. They make it very clear that no one has lights on around you so you can enjoy the sky. Would come back again and highly recommend this place!

What a beautiful Joshua Tree retreat, the perfect launch pad for adventures in the park. The house was immaculate. The furnishings and decor unique and modern. (Love the art!). Comfortably appointed for two couples or a small family. We loved the small considerations that made it special: peepholes in privacy screen around outdoor shower and deck, seating and fire pit overlooking the small canyon leading to the park. Cowgirl tub and hot tub looked inviting but didn’t have time to enjoy. Best of all: a quick mile into Joshua Tree park and easy drive to conveniences of both Joshua Tree the town and Yucca Valley. Hope to visit again.

We loved our stay. Shelter Two is a little jewel box with big views. Make sure to follow the hosts directions to the house. GPS takes you somewhere different. Enjoy!

Views from this place were amazing! Everything was very clean and neat when we arrived. Even tho it is out in the open we felt very safe and secure in and outside the house. Will defiantly recommend to friends and family for future trips!
