Famed architect Ron Radziner established the architectural design firm, Marmol Radziner and Associates, with Leo Marmol in Venice in 1989. By 2014, Radziner had worked on restoration projects originally designed by architects like Cliff May, John Lautner, and E. Stewart Williams. The firm also completed the restoration of Neutra's Kronish House in Beverly Hills that year. Over the course of his career, Radziner had helped design homes for clients like Tom Ford and Bradley Cooper and was honored as an inductee of the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 2009.

-ESSENTIALS-
The cabin has WiFi, heating, and air conditioning, plus parking for 2 vehicles.

Because of the remote location, please note that the WiFi is typically very strong, but can be a bit slower in difficult weather.

-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at Marmol Radziner's Modernist Cabin. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

• The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

We love the High Desert for a lot of reasons - including the open spaces, lack of crowds, and dry weather that we believe make it a safe place to visit.

The setting is so pristine! To bath under the moonlight and stars in total privacy in the wild boulder fields at night and then frolic endlessly by day in Joshua Tree was such a treat.

We found our stay delightful. The proximity to nature, literally on the other side of the window was special. Our morning coffee included a full show of birds, chipmunks, and bunnies feeding on their breakfast fair. I go to the desert for escape and reset and our stay checked that box. We also loved the architecture and style of the home and would return again.

This was a phenomenal experience. The property is gorgeous, you might as well be inside the park. The windows made it feel like camping but way better. Stunning views, waking up to the sunrise, bird song and landscape. Incredibly peaceful and quiet. An inspiring experience, worth the price tag. I intent to come back. Thank you.

Had a lovely stay. The space is beautiful. The location is perfect. The scenery is exactly what you want for an Airbnb in Joshua Tree. I particularly liked the outdoor tub, fireplace and comfy bed.

Our stay was wonderful. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, but close to town for food and shopping. We enjoyed hiking the property and watching the sunrise and sunset. The outdoor tub was a great addition. Our only complaint is that the only available shower is outdoors. It got pretty cold because the wind was blowing. Everything else was great.

The cabin was super cute and nice for my two-night stay during my first visit to Joshua Tree. There were no extra blankets or washcloths and response was extremely slow from the host, so none were available the first night, which was a little disappointing. They simply messaged to look in the cabinets, which I had already done. They did finally bring some over the next day around 1p with some tea and cookies, which was a nice gesture. The surrounding environment was absolutely breathtaking! The only drawback was it didn't feel super clean, as there was a layer of dust above the bed area where books are stashed. It's lovely how the boulders can be lit up at night, and trails can be accessed directly from the back door.

Thank you for staying with us on your trip to the hi-desert and for your honest review. We've gone ahead and left extra blankets in the space for our future guests and will be sure our cleaning company checks the bookshelves for dust. Thank you again for staying with us and safe travels!

The cabin was a destination in itself. Multiple days I debated whether to drive into Joshua Tree NP or just go exploring around the cabin, and when I chose the latter, I didn't regret it. Nice courtyard grill and lighting, a perfect getaway!

Thank you for amazing experience, place is beautiful, exactly like on the pictures, location breathtaking here, I’m talking about big boulders at the “backyard” , this is really unique place , you feel like inside Joshua park and you can start exploring right from the house. They did good job with lighting inside and around the house, especially light up some big boulders at night, good touch! Highly recommended getaway for 2 people!

The cabin was well appointed and as described. It was clean, comfortable and had a lot of charm. Great indoor and outdoor spaces. The location was excellent; beautiful scenery and easy to walk into the park. Communication with the property management company was not always easy and information regarding checking in and check out procedures were not clear and sent late.

Fernando, thanks for mentioning that the cabin was well appointed, clean, comfortable and had a lot of charm... and that there were great indoor and outdoor spaces. We also love the beautiful scenery and easy access to the park. However, we must take issue with your complaints about communication. Homestead Modern is known well for our responsiveness, professionalism and friendly rapport. We see that you asked about a fee after hours and we got right back to you the next morning. We sent the checkout details to you the night before your departure, but your late departure reduced our ability to serve others in a timely way. While we like the compliments, the criticism here is inaccurate and not helpful to others - as it is factually untrue.

What an incredible space! The property is surrounded by beautiful rock structures and full of wildlife. If you're traveling during hot season (like we did), I highly recommend this space. The exterior covered living room provided relief from the sun, while allowing us to experience the outdoors in an otherwise extreme environment. I would absolutely stay here again.

This was the best airbnb stay my husband and I have ever experienced. The natural surroundings of the space were just breathtaking. It felt very remote but still had close proximity to everything we needed. The space itself was very thoughtfully appointed with all the kitchenware and linens we could want. Our every need was anticipated. Our favorite part was watching the stars in the evening in the bathtub. We suggest bringing a telescope to get the most out of the amazing stargazing. Thank you so much for sharing this space with us. We hope to return someday in the future.

My husband and I enjoyed our two nights at the Homestead Modern. It was our first big trip since having our daughter so we decided to splurge a bit and stay here. While the location is beautiful, neighbors did walk through our backyard in the evening, so it’s not completely private. I’m just happy we weren’t in the tub or shower at the time. We also had some difficulty with the temperature controls on the shower (it was either really hot or cold), which was disappointing as this was a big reason for booking this place. Otherwise, it’s well-stocked and beautifully designed.

If you are a perfectionist, like me, you will love Homestead. The house is absolutely perfect for two people and the outside spaces will leave you wanting to stay outside late. The cowboy tub was delightful for star-gazing. Homestead did not miss a thing, from outdoor blankets to keep you warm on a chilly night to a delightful yellow tea kettle which I already want to purchase. This house is abuts a beautiful landscape, great for walking and exploring. Couldn’t have asked for more. I’m picky, and I found no flaws. Sensational.

We had a lovely and restful weekend at this cabin! The location is incredible, and being able to hike into the park was wonderful. There are neighbors fairly close on both sides, one is under construction and there was a godo amount of folks coming and going, but it's very quiet in the evenings. We were a bit surprised to see that the bed was quite small, but it was comfortable and we were able to make it work for a couple of nights. My husband is on the tall side, though, and I think any longer would've been too squishy!

Overall, it’s a nice spot, VERY small, not quite as private as we hoped (glass windows and outdoor shower are very much visible from neighbors property), we thought it wasn’t worth the money with the exception of being able to walk into the park. Would not recommend if you and your partner sleep/wake at different times as this is a TINY studio and would not recommend to stay for more than a night or two!

Hi Kea! Thanks for staying at our "Modernist Cabin". This unique property definitely takes coziness to another level! Most guests do enjoy this tranquil space for less than a week, but some are so charmed by the scenery that they stay longer. Hopefully the excellent weather inspired you to spend as much time outdoors... as inside.

Unbelievable views and quiet, private location near Joshua Tree National Park. Cabin is beautifully simple. Shower is outside, which was a bit chilly since the temperature was pretty cool during our stay but the view was incredible. Living spaces are also outside. We really enjoyed the fireplace and "cowboy tub". No sound system or rabbit food available during our stay but, otherwise, just like the description.

The modernist house was beautifully appointed with designer retro furniture in a great location. I was surprised when we arrived as I was expecting the house to be bigger. It is essentially a cabin that’s really suited to a summer stay. Because we were there in January it was cold which I knew it would be, but there was no- where comfortable to sit and relax inside, other than the bed. Suggestion for renting it out in the winter, would be to, either have more heating outside or put a couple of comfortable chairs inside. Otherwise, it was a lovely place to stay and explore Joshua Tree

Generally, we enjoyed our stay. It’s a bit smaller than we anticipated—the pictures don’t accurately capture its size. Alas, it’s a beautiful place, fairly close to Yucca Valley and other attractions you might explore. Bring an extra blanket if it’s winter, as the one they provide is inadequate for two people. The place was well stocked for cooking, which we really appreciated it.

Happy to know you found our Modernist Cabin well stocked & beautiful. This is an architecturally significant home built as a small homestead retreat most find that it shows just as large as it photographs. The floor plan is included in the listing and extra blankets are provided in the closet next to the bed. Hope to see you again soon.

Our stay was wonderful! I wanted to take my 9 year old son on a quick road trip before thanksgiving and I’m so glad we chose this home. We read books, played board games and I even cooked a sweet potato pie the night before thanksgiving! I love okie up at 4 am to look at stars right on the back patio. I saw 7 shooting stars! My son and I both took turns in the outdoor bath under a sunny windy sky. It was so relaxing! The place was so spotless and minimal but still beautiful. The giant windows were a plus because so much sunlight came through. They have long thick shades to block out the windows which we did in the evenings. I enjoyed every minute of being here. :) I would definitely love to stay here again sometime! As far as restaurants, We loved eating at the Crossroads cafe 5 minutes away. Everything was delicious! Super cute cabin at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park. Perfect for a couple. Location is great and quiet, but it takes a few minutes to get from the main road up the dirt road to the cabin. Small, but very clean and comfortable, with a fully-equipped kitchen (except no microwave that we could find). We loved the semi-outdoor shower and patio seating by the outdoor gas fireplace. The home has everything you need for the kitchen etc but does lack the little warm and personal touches of a mom ‘n pop shop or real home. A really special home on a really special piece of land. The orientation of the house toward the massive rock outcroppings creates a feeling of complete solitude. The home itself is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple. I saw many jackrabbits, roadrunners, hummingbirds, doves, phainopepla and quail. The quail woke me up each morning and the local coyotes sang every night at dusk. There is a great trail up through the rocks and into the remote Northern region of the park, enter to the right of the large water tank on the hill, or climb the boulders directly behind the house and link up with the Burro Loop trail. I did a 5-mile loop up through there and didn't see another person.

This was my second stay here and I almost hesitate to write another great review for fear of more people finding it. I came alone the first year for a fabulous weekend of solitude. This year I brought a special friend and the solitude was shared. It was no less special, for sure. We cooked, bathed, hiked, lounged, etc. We enjoyed every minute in this perfect, quiet cabin. The proximity to the park is ideal but wandering out the back door is just as magical at sunrise or whenever the moment hits. There are a few places within a 10-20 min drive if you must eat out. We even ventured to Palm Springs for provisions the first day. Its less than an hour drive and has a wide range of bars and stores. The kitchen is well equipped for basic meal prep and large enough to move around. The bathroom, outdoor shower, and outdoor tub are just right. I dream of them when I am home in snowy Michigan. In a phrase - don't come here and suffer the same longings I have;)

You can walk right into the park, or lie in bed and feel like you're already there. The connection to the outdoors, and framing of the views, are perfect.

Cleanliness is next to godliness. When you’re in a homestead modern establishment, you get both. Excellent interaction with the host from recommendations in the area to providing a seamless transition from traveling to walking in the front door and feeling like you are truly home.

This was truly one of the best experiences I have ever had with Airbnb. The location of this house is so incredible, at times it was almost hard to believe where you are. Joshua Tree national park is stunning enough, but being able to walk right into the park from the privacy of your own home with no cars or other tourists around is so wonderful. The sunrises and sunsets are the most magical experience, everything about this house is perfect. Definitely planning another stay, cant wait to go back. Thank you for providing such an unforgettable experience.

This place amazing! Good location for easy access to the park although I could’ve just hung out at the property all day. I mean, the area behind it is just stunning. Also LOVED the outdoor shower! Definitely a place you don’t wanna miss if you’re in the area and have the opportunity.
