Favorite features of the property are always the outdoor amenities — including dining, lounging, and stargazing areas. Most notable is the hot tub that sits away from the house and offers jaw-dropping views in three directions. Nearby is an outdoor shower (off during winter months) and lounging area. The patio includes a hot tub, a hammock, a day bed, and a fire pit, and next to the house is the covered patio area with a dining table, BBQ, and ping pong table.

To the east, the terrain slopes gently toward infinity amid a carpet of desert plants. To the south are the Bartlett Mountains, and beyond those are the ranks of peaks and boulder piles that traverse Joshua Tree National Park, 12 miles away. It’s a stargazer’s paradise, with the huge night sky and lack of light pollution.

Parking is available for 4 vehicles, and an electric vehicle charger is provided.

Saddleback Escape has WiFi, heating, and air conditioning.

This home has a security camera mounted on, and directed at the exterior of the home in order to monitor the quantity of cars on property so we may ensure compliance with local ordinances.

-ACTIVITIES/ATTRACTIONS-
Visitors come to the High Desert for its unique landscape, culture, and recreational opportunities, as well as for the weather - hot and dry summers and mild winters at our high altitude. Joshua Tree and the communities surrounding the Joshua Tree National Park include Flamingo Heights, Pioneertown, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, and Landers. You’ll be close to all the action at Saddleback Escape. Some of our favorite options available to you:

–Joshua Tree National Park: 800,000 acres of mystical beauty - Joshua Tree National Park is one of the world’s most incredible natural desert treasures. Sweeping, grand in scale and populated by granite monoliths and voluptuous rock and boulder formations. This quiet land, conducive to meditation and roaming, was carved by extremes in climate - wind, rain and an ever-present, relentless sun. Diverse forms of plant life are found everywhere, but none as unique or prevalent as the park’s namesake: the Joshua tree, standing majestically across the vast topography.

–Pioneertown: Step back in time to thus rustic Old West-style village. Wander through the historic buildings, visit unique shops, catch a live music performance at Pappy & Harriets, and experience the Wild West charm.

• The Integratron: New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process.

We love the High Desert for a lot of reasons - including the open spaces, lack of crowds, and dry weather that we believe make it a safe place to visit.

Loved the location. It was secluded but close enough to restaurants and stores. My only critique is that they had a broken window in the garage that had tape on it. I felt like this was unsafe and should be fixed before renting out.

Beautiful estate with serene atmosphere and surroundings. Host was communicative and overall a clean house with attention to details. Great stay.

The highlight of the property is certainly the outdoor space. The inside feels a little dated, and Wi-Fi was spotty, which is not ideal if you’re on zoom half the time.

Had a wonderful at this beautiful Airbnb in Joshua tree. It’s location was incredible. Right at the base of a small mountain with panoramic views of large mountain ranges. The only critique I have is that there is a fence that runs along the back of the house. It can be seen behind the hot tub whereas in the photos the fence must not have been built yet. Regardless, I didn’t mind that it was there. We had a beautiful time and spent together and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend a peaceful weekend. 10/10 stay.

Regarding your feedback about the fence, we sincerely apologize for any discrepancy between the photos and the current layout. We continuously strive to ensure that our guests have the most accurate representation of our property, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused. Your understanding and positive attitude towards this matter are truly appreciated.

Awesome stay in a cool house
Saddleback Escape lives up to its photos and description. It's a cool house that's comfortable, clean, and very well-kept. The seclusion is great, no neighbors or really anybody at all to bug you during your stay. The complete silence and darkness at night was a refreshing change from city life. And the stars, don't even get me started on the stars.

Really enjoyed our stay in the desert. We needed a last minute reservation because we were going to the integratron and they squeezed us in literally the same day which was much appreciated. The property was nice and had a lot of space. The outdoor shower, bed, jacuzzi and fire pit were awesome and we used all of them. Had a good time playing ping pong! The kitchen had ample supplies and the bbq was nice and great to cook on too. Intructions on how to use everyhting were clear. The beds were super comfortable. We were able to cruise to Joshua tree in like 15 minutes but were far enough away from everything that we had great views of the stars at night. Overall, the stay was great and the hosts were very responsive and helpful.

We decided to pay a little extra for a place with lots of windows, and this home did not disappoint! Loved the hot tub and outdoor shower, but the best part was relaxing inside and taking in the view. Host was friendly and responsive (even left a toy out for the doggo). We already are making plans to come back!

Everything was great except the pictures did not accurately portray the property; there is a big long brown metal fence behind the jacuzzi that stretches down the whole property, completely cutting off that sense of openness we thought we were getting from the pictures. It most likely would have changed our decision to stay here, but everything else was great so I am not upset and still had a wonderful stay!
- Review Date: 7/12/2023
Hi Dylan! So nice to hear that you had had a wonderful stay overall! Many find this unique location to offer breathtaking sky views, privacy and a remote vibe that feels calm and family-friendly. While the rust colored fence may seem discouraging, it's actually a vital addition as it shields the property from wind, blowing desert dust and debris, prying eyes and separates the space from the adjacent empty lot. Most guests really appreciate this aesthetic, but we understand why it's not for everyone.

We had an amazing stay at Saddleback! The house is relaxing and clean, and we had a great time hanging out at the fire pit both nights of the trip. The location is beautiful and it was great to be so close to the mountain, which looked incredible during sunset. I wish we had more time to play all the games! I highly recommend staying at Sattleback Escape, it's everything you want in a Joshua Tree Airbnb!

This was our first stay in Joshua Tree and it exceeded our expectations! The instructions and house manual that were provided were very thorough and covered everything, the check-in and check-out processes were beyond simple, and the property looked exactly how it does in the photos. The house was spotless as well. The property is completely private and away from everyone, which provided us with the exact experience we were looking for. This is a perfect spot for a private getaway and I would totally book again in the future!

We wanted a rental that was going to be scenic, private, quiet, isolated AND designed well. This rental checked all our requirements. The layout of the house was great for our family—kids in the back two rooms and us in the master suite with a little patio area for post-bedtime star gazing. The ping pong table was great to have as well as the hot tub. We had two dogs with us—one who has a lot of anxiety living in LA from constant noises from neighbors, fireworks, trucks, helicopters and the dreaded MAIL CARRIER! ? He usually barks a lot and hides after 3pm but at the rental the serenity of the environment turned him into a whole new dog—never barked and always wanted to go outside. There’s an extra charge for dogs but they included poo bags, a lint roller and a cozy dog bed that they both slept on! The kitchen is well equipped and a pleasure to work in. The panoramic views were lovely and we definitely would like to book another stay sometime soon. Thank you!

Saddleback Escape is a great hideaway for anyone looking for some peace and quiet. You definitely have some great privacy and hear nothing but the sand crunch underneath your feet when you walk. The place itself was spotless and well equipped. We especially loved all of the amenities! Cannot beat central A/C in that desert heat and a hot tub with beautiful desert views. The biggest downside to our stay was that the A/C is so loud and gives off tons of random noises throughout the night. This is hard to deal with when you’re trying to feel safe and secure in the middle of the desert! Couldn’t help but wake up with every small noise I heard only to realize it was just the A/C. Also be prepared for tons of dirt roads out here in Joshua Tree! Thanks again Saddleback Escape!

It’s a nice, comfortable, secluded place. We had 4 people and two dogs and it was great for that size group. The bedding was updated to crisp, clean, white bedding (as opposed to the pictures posted), which was nice. There are still stains on the couch, which was noted in their welcome/instruction manual, and in previous reviews. The master shower was super nice and the steam feature was cool. I do think it’s a little expensive for what it is, and would probably look around a little more next time, but overall it was good. Just not $2k for 3 nights good. We notified them of a potential problem our first night there where we smelled propane really strongly in the garage and we were asked where it was coming from, and were told they would notify maintenance, then didn’t hear anything else. That could have probably been handled a little differently, but we are still alive and the house didn’t blow up so ????

Overall, this was a very relaxing getaway. The host was polite and responsive right away. The outdoor jacuzzi was great to use. It was also really nice for our furry friends to join us. The stay at Saddleback Escape is a serene and calming experience. One of the best parts is staring at constellations while soaking in the hot tub or laying by the fire pit. Rented this home for the weekend The house is located in a really nice location not too far from Joshua tree national Park. The only notable issue that we had that if you’re planning on renting you should be aware of is there is a chance there will be a power outages. we experienced it during our first night staying there and depending on the time of day it happens it can be very difficult getting any assistance with getting the power turned back on. other than that we enjoyed our time there

The Saddleback Escape is a dream - location, amenities, and curated style are amazing. The house has an open floor plan with a cozy living space, generous kitchen island area and 3 comfortable rooms. every space is well curated and clean! The communication was quick, helpful and kind. The remarkably open desert space, pleasantly remote feeling and fun outside amenities made this space so enjoyable for a restful and relaxing family weekend. The garage area was great for some kid playtime and the outdoor space was so awesome. Even in a heat wave, we spent the majority of the time hoping from the house to the hot tub and outdoor showers. We even had some jack rabbit and road runner sightings! This was a truly a unique stay and we can’t wait to be back!

Great little spot, loved the hot tub and the steam shower reeeeally was the icing on the cake lol! It was like a little desert spa, the dogs also loved the house and they loved sitting outside and staring into the distance. My family really enjoyed our stay :) Secluded, but I did notice that they are building a fence soon next to the property.. Idk if that is part of their property or not, but to the left of the house was a bit of an eye sore with the metal poles sticking out of the ground and the collection of scraps/materials in a pile.

TLDR: this place is gorgeous, I had a lovely stay. I was a bit weary due to some mixed reviews, but it turned out great. The property is beautiful, the place was clean when we got there and the amenities are not only functional but so delightful (the hot tub and fire pit especially). There's also plenty of space between us and neighbours, so we felt secluded and private. Plenty of climbing opportunities in the area, as well as JT park itself which is stunning.

The property is very private and beautiful! We sadly had a camper visitor staying right across the dirt road but otherwise very private. We didn’t really get to take advantage of the jacuzzi as it wasn’t working when we arrived and took too long to heat up but the outdoor space is wonderful and the game room was entertaining. The steam shower is a must!! And stargazing on the outdoor bed was wonderful. They provide all the blankets you could ever ask for and the living room is too cozy. I would love to come again to soak in that jacuzzi!

We spent three nights here in March. The house is clean and very comfortable. There are horizon to horizon views, without another neighbor in sight (though just 5 miles from the main road, shopping center and restaurants. The stargazing was spectacular. The gas firepit was lovely during the cool evenings. The ping pong table was great fun for the kids. The gas stove in the living room made everything feel cozy. Kitchen was well supplied. The entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is just a 20 minute drive away. Overall, we had an amazing stay and would definitely stay here again.

Our family of four absolutely loved our time on this property. The location really is surprisingly close to town and the park entrance while feeling really secluded. Pros: * Hot tub between the Joshua Trees - absolutely amazing view of the sunrise and sunset every day. Incredible stargazing. (Would be tight for 4 adults but perfect for 2 adults or a family that doesn’t mind being close) * Huge kitchen with everything you need to cook * Fun game room/garage and outdoor grill and patio * Nice master bath * Plenty of storage for luggage, closets, etc * Really responsive property manager if issues arise Cons: * Some development is starting to take place around the property. If you want *absolute* seclusion, check first about what else will be going on nearby while you’re there. * We had a couple of things that didn’t work when we first showed up on site. They were very quick to respond and address them but it obviously wouldn’t been ideal to not have them at all. * The house is nice but it’s not super luxury. It doesn’t bill itself as that, but don’t expect 5 stars. Solid 4 for sure that could quickly become a 5 when upgrades are finished. Tips: * Get into the park by 9am everyday to avoid an hour wait in your car * Head to Pappy & Harriets by 4pm to avoid an hour+ wait to eat * Souvenir shop at Coyote Canyon by the main entrance * Get a coffee from Joshua Tree Coffee Shop * Pack robes for the hot tub

We had a good time and the hosts were very responsive and nice when we had any issues. The place is Satisfactory but nowhere near as nice as the photos. We were expecting something much more substantial and new. If you are young travelers who aren’t looking for somewhere “super nice” to stay than this is perfect for you. If you are looking for something a little more luxurious (as we expected from the price and photos) Then this might not be the place for you.

Saddleback saved our Girls Trip Getaway. We had booked a previous Air BnB months ago in the area and they unfortunately had to cancel 2 days prior to our arrival. We specifically needed 3 bedrooms and we were set on finding a place with an outdoor seating area near the town of Joshua Tree. Our only option was to splurge for Saddleback which was almost twice the price of our original booking. Saddleback's property company was very quick and efficient in the communication process. They politely answered all of my questions and responded well outside of "normal business hours", promptly getting back to me at 9pm at night. I appreciated the ease of booking and the contactless check in with the digital keypad. The property is very secluded but pretty quick into Josh Tree town. You won't see another neighbor and you will hear some wildlife at night. The house is only accessible via a dirt road, so if you have a low riding luxury vehicle, this is your warning. There are handsome Josh Trees on the property and the outside entertaining space is exceptional. The garage door opens up to the common outside areas so there's a card table, ping pong table, BBQ, outside dining table, comfy seating area, jacuzzi, etc all within feet of each other. The jacuzzi was all ready for us to use upon arrival. The indoor kitchen was spacious enough for 4 people to work and cook simultaneously. Coffee grounds, olive oil, and a fair share of ziplock bags & plastic wrap were provided. We had no issues whatsoever with any water problems. There was always hot water and there were 6 of us. Only item to note was very minor- the Master shower (which also doubles as a sauna) was extremely slow to drain during our first shower. I did some digging in the drain removing a bunch of hair (not ours) and then it drained like a dream. Easy fix but not the most pleasant task. Overall we had a great time and this home suited our needs. I'm very grateful they saved our vacation. It's a great option for a group of 6. The sunsets are spectacular.

Saddleback Escape is the perfect location for a desert getaway. Everything at the home is well thought out, from the games and outdoor activities to the location of the jacuzzi, hammock and fire pit. The kitchen was fully equipped, the beds were comfortable and the steam shower in the master bathroom was a lovely touch. The jacuzzi offered 360 degree views of the desert, which was perfect for watching sunsets and stargazing. There were multiple seating areas around the home, including patio furniture under a string of lights. It was perfect. I hope to visit again in the near future.

Definitely recommend checking in during the day! We had arrived later in the evening, close to 9pm and Google maps originally took us to a different location that was very eerie, but fortunately we found the correct place. The lights are turned off at night when you arrive so make sure to have a working flashlight to see clearly. The patio is very relaxing, and the view is beautiful during the day. We had a few questions and had to request a last-minute change on our reservation since my husband had to attend jury duty during our stay, and the hosts were quick to respond to us. Make sure to wear shoes if you're walking outdoors since there are little spiky balls on the ground. Our son had walked outside for a couple of minutes and poor guy had so many little thorns on his foot. Overall, the place has everything you'd need and it was very secluded. Perfect for a big group on a weekend getaway!

This stay was absolute magic. The place was beautifully decorated in a very sheik desert mid-century modern, and the outside touches with the bed, sitting space, jacuzzi, hammock, and showers were even better than I expected. I've never been to Joshua tree and this particular stay set the bar for my future stays. There were minor issues totally out of control of the hosts and they remedied all situations very quickly which I can't even express how much I appreciate. I had full cell phone reception with Verizon which was also amazing considering how relatively remote the house is. The wi-fi worked perfectly for the TV and streaming the little we did use it, but it was about 75% functional for cell phone use. I had no issues with this because I was looking to disconnect anyway and you can't force perfect reception on satellite wifi in the desert. Anywho! Don't think twice about the stay. It was AMAZING. Also, maybe I missed it but I saw no mention of the SAUNA function in the airbnb description and I was confused as to what it even was entering the master bathroom but once it was active, H-O-L-Y wow. I was stunned. It was perfect for rehydrating my skin and lungs in the unforgiving desert wind and air. Perfect touch. Thanks again for such a great experience guys!!!

The space was very cozy and clean, definitely smaller than it looks in the photos. Some of the kitchen utilities weren't working or stopped working (some stove burners, the oven, and the ice maker stopped making ice a day into our stay). The outdoor space was lovely and very comfortable--the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful Joshua Tree sunrise and sunset. The host was also very communicative and kept us informed of the nearby Apple fire. Side note: this might be strange, but I appreciate the fact that they didn't have us do an extensive clean-up as part of the checkout process, like several other Airbnbs I've stayed at did (I will never understand why I have to pay $100-200 for a cleaning fee when I'm doing 90% of the cleaning myself.) We just had to put used towels in the shower, lock the doors, etc--so that was much appreciated and felt honest to me.

Saddleback and Joshua Tree in general are beautiful places. The hosts at Saddleback were very responsive. Just a reminder to prospective guests about the additional guest fee of $65 per guest, per night. If your initial reservation is for 6 people (max occupancy), then the nightly rate will reflect that before you book. If you add a fifth and sixth guest after you make a reservation, the additional guest fee will be applied. This is consistent with their pricing structure, but a bit unclear if you add guests (even up to the maximum of 6) after the initial reservation.

There were a few little things that required repair that maybe aren’t worth mentioning because they might be fixed by the time future guests book but I would say this place is more ideal and really truly perfect for times of the year with good weather. It was sparkling clean and the kitchen was very well stocked for cooking a big meal!
